Diani · Wildlife Safari
Mwaluganje Elephant Sanctuary sits in Kwale County, inland from the south coast and next to the Shimba Hills. It is a community-run reserve set up so that elephants and local people can share the land, and it is known for its elephant herds. It is a good choice if you want a safari day from Diani without the long drive to Tsavo.
Your driver-guide collects you from your Diani hotel and drives inland to the sanctuary. The day is spent on game drives through the bush, with stops at waterholes and viewpoints, and a break for lunch. You are back at your hotel in the late afternoon. Timing depends on your pickup time and the season.
Elephants are the main attraction, along with buffalo, antelope, monkeys and a good range of birds. Sightings are never guaranteed.
If you want more time in the forest and the chance of sable antelope, ask us about combining Mwaluganje with Shimba Hills National Park.
