Overview

Amboseli in three days, by air

Amboseli is one of the closest big parks to Nairobi, but the road drive is still around four hours each way. Flying from Wilson Airport takes under an hour, so a three-day trip becomes almost three full days of game viewing — the park's permanent swamps draw some of Kenya's largest elephant herds, often photographed with Mount Kilimanjaro behind them.

How the three days work

Day one starts with a transfer to Wilson Airport and the short flight to Amboseli's airstrip, where you are met and taken to your lodge for lunch before an afternoon game drive. Day two is a full day in the park, ideally beginning with a sunrise drive, since early morning gives the best chance of a clear Kilimanjaro view. Day three includes a final game drive where the flight schedule allows, then the flight back to Wilson Airport.

Getting there by air

Flights are scheduled light-aircraft services with strict baggage allowances — commonly around 15 kg per person in a soft-sided bag, confirmed with your booking. Because flights land at Wilson Airport rather than JKIA and schedules can shift with weather, we suggest not booking a tight same-day international connection.

Good to know

The price shown is a guide per adult sharing a twin room, full board, including the return flights, park fees and game drives. Kilimanjaro is often cloud-covered, especially later in the day, so a clear view can never be guaranteed. If you would prefer to drive, see our Amboseli 3-Day Safari from Nairobi, the road version of this trip.

Highlights

  • Under an hour in the air instead of roughly four hours by road
  • Elephant herds against Mount Kilimanjaro
  • More time in the park, with no long drive at either end
  • A comfortable pace built around early-morning game drives

Frequently asked questions

How long is the flight?

Under an hour from Nairobi's Wilson Airport to Amboseli, on a scheduled light-aircraft service.

Is Kilimanjaro guaranteed to be visible?

No — the mountain is often cloud-covered, especially later in the day. Early morning gives the best chance of a clear view.

Why does this cost more than the road version?

The return light-aircraft flights are a significant part of the price, and the lodges used for fly-in stays are typically a step up from the budget options on our road itineraries.

Can we add a second park?

Yes — ask us to quote a longer fly-in itinerary, for example adding a night in the Maasai Mara, and we will price the connecting flights.
