Tsavo East, Salt Lick, Tsavo West and Amboseli: a four-day safari from Voi

This four-day circuit starts in Voi and takes in Tsavo East, Salt Lick, Tsavo West and Amboseli, then returns you to Voi or drops you at Mtito Andei or Emali. It is the fastest way to cover all four, so it suits travellers who are short of time and comfortable with long days in the vehicle. A five-day version gives more time in each place.

The route

Day one is Tsavo East from Voi Gate. Day two is Salt Lick and the move towards Tsavo West. Day three crosses Tsavo West to Amboseli. Day four is a morning game drive in Amboseli and the transfer to your finish point. Days two and three include longer drives; your guide confirms timings with you.

Arrival and finish

Arrive in Voi by SGR, bus or shuttle, or in your own vehicle. Finish back in Voi, at Mtito Andei or at Emali, to continue by train, bus or private transport.

Itinerary

    Day 1 – Voi to Tsavo East

    Meet in Voi, enter Tsavo East by Voi Gate and game drive through the afternoon. Overnight at a lodge or camp.

  2. 2

    Day 2 – Tsavo East, Salt Lick and Tsavo West

    Morning game drive, then Salt Lick for the waterhole and onward towards Tsavo West. Overnight in or near Tsavo West.

  3. 3

    Day 3 – Tsavo West to Amboseli

    Morning game drive in Tsavo West, then transfer to Amboseli and an afternoon game drive. Overnight near Amboseli.

    Day 4 – Amboseli and finish

    Early game drive with Kilimanjaro views if clear, then transfer to Emali, Mtito Andei or back to Voi.

Frequently asked questions

Can we start the safari straight from the SGR?

Yes. Tell us your train and arrival time and we meet you at Voi station and transfer you to the safari vehicle or park gate. Please check your service’s timetable and the stations it stops at when you book.

We are coming by bus or shuttle. Where do we meet?

Ask to be dropped in Voi town. We meet you at the stop or at our Voi office near the Voi Curio Shop, about 1 km before Voi Main Gate, depending on your arrival time.

Where can the safari finish?

Back in Voi, at Mtito Andei or at Emali, so you can continue by SGR, bus or private transport to Nairobi or Mombasa. Tell us your onward travel time and we plan around it.

Is four days too rushed for all four?

It is a full programme with long drives on days two and three. If you prefer a slower pace, choose the five-day version, which adds an extra night.

Are animal sightings guaranteed?

No. Wildlife is wild and sightings vary with season, weather and luck. Your driver-guide knows where to look and plans game drives around the best light.
